thanks but i did exactly that, i tightened the gasket on the pan per the sequence in the manual or the way i would do head bolts, and i didn't try and tighten them all the way to the specified torque but in stages. i guess i have to try it again and see if i have better luck. i thought someone would have some sorta special sealant i could use. thanks again. ken
