Hang in there! I quit in ’92. I smoked up to 3 packs of Camel filters per day until I quit. I did it cold turkey. It was intensely difficult. Having a nicotine substitute will help you avoid many problems related to sudden nicotine withdrawal.
If at all possible start an exercise routine to help clear out your lungs. Start by doing a simple 1/4th mile walk every day. Work up from there. When you’re comfortable start doing some aerobic exercise. Work up gradually and don’t beat yourself up in the process. The slow and steady gain in physical fitness will go a long way to off set the negative effects of quitting.
Not unrelated, I owe the fact that I have heart disease – 3 partial blockages -- to my former smoking habit.
