A turbo bearing seal could be bad and might not impact the feel or easy turning component. You want to check the turbo output side for oil residue in the housing. It should be pretty dry. I imagine just removing the u tube will get you there.
Also your description sounds about right. Not much oil smoke at idle but when you come on to it a bit the oil is pushed into the combustion chambers and more smoke. Thats because at idle a pool of oil builds up down there. There could be other sources. This possibility is probably about as easy as it's going to get financially unfortunatly. Thats if we are talking a lot of smoke.
