Prior to finishing the cup holder, I had my wife test drive it for a few days. The black inserts are 3" by 1.5" deep. They snugly hold a soda can
without a coozy and they hold the bottom of most coffee travel mugs (all the ones we have fit). I gave it an "extreme" test as well which it passed beautifully. (A rigorous shaking with cups on board)
The next deepest cup insert is too deep for the console dimensions. If you really want the hole deeper, the bottom of the insert could be cut off. I can also get inserts that will be large enough for a can with coozy (3.75"), but the bottom will
have to be cut off on those since they're too deep as well. It will still have the nice finished appearance for the edge of the hole, but you'll be able to see the bottom of the console tray.
The inserts are a softer plastic so they will cut easily and the cut edge could be cleaned up with a little sand paper.
