Generally if you are bringing the car to Canada and you intend to keep it for personal use you can avoid many of the taxes and duties. If you sell within one year you generally have to pay the sales tax (15-16% in most provinces), and there may be other issues. Certain parts of Ontario will require you pass an emmissions test in addition to the the safety inspection, but you have to get it accross the border and sorted out in that regard before you can register it. Most NB models that were sold in the US were also sold in Canada so you shouldn't have a problem there.
Your best bet for a smooth transition may be to find a customs broker.
