I was not joking about the "Remove Engine" instruction from the Lexus Repair Manual for a water pump replacement. A friend and I were able to lift the engine out enough to get to water pump housing without removing the entire unit from the engine bay.

My sister had a Ford Escort back in the 80's. The mechanic told my sister it was:

1-Unscrew & Remove gas/fuel cap,
2-install new car
3-Screw Gas/Fuel Cap back on
