A glasspack will mellow the sound more than no muffler at all - certainly better than a straight pipe. Especially if you use one of the long ones with a 30 inch body and 2-1/2 inch core pipe.

And if you install the glasspack "backwards" - turn the internal louvers to where the openings face the back (instead of the front) - they won't pack with soot as much or as fast as if you install them facing forward (the "normal" way)...
