thanks for all the feedback.

the car did have some oil seepage in the oil pan gasket which apparently would have required a lot of work to get at...and it'll be part of the overall rebuild.

and yes, I want to the car to be right....however the car engine is halfway taken apart now, too late for a second opinion.

my quandary now is whether to just tell them do the hydraulic lifters and the timing chaing and hope for the best re the valves.
