Goh! I must jump in!. This is our 4th Volvo. I have had two 700 series, an s70 and this 02' v70. They all have been great cars!
I drove a V40 and it was just too small for our needs. It seemed real narrow. Everything inside seemed miniature. I thought I was driving a go-cart. Quick little 4 turbo! Very peppy. I had to have the V70 for size.
I do not miss my 98' s70 compared to this new one we have. The s70 had to much engine vibration and you could feel the tranny shift in the steering wheel. It was also a little weak for my taste. A c230 is a little peppier. I am speaking both non-turbo(kompressor). A/C smelled bad. Never could get rid of the scent.
My 02' V70 is very smooth except when you turn it off and when you turn it on. It feels like the engine is starting on no mounts or dampers. The steering is heavily power assisted taking away that heavy feel like an MB or an older Volvo. It no longer feels like a tank. It sure sails down the freeway though! Straight as an arrow. Alot better than my S70. I use cruise to keep my speed down but my wife does not use cruise and goes 90 or better down I-75 without noticing. I had to follow her in my poor old Wagoneer the other day and I could not push it any harder. the needle was buried and I could smell gas! I called her on the cell and said "you follow me."
Great car though! I will keep this one a long time! I have too it nearly broke the bank at $36k and some change. Good luck.
later,
