We do some thing well if you don't look at the full picture, it's true.
As for inefficiency, we use about twice as much energy per capita as France and Japan and half again as much as Germany, 3 nations clearly among the top 10 or 20 industrial powerhouses of the world. Whoops make that top 10. Japan - 2nd in GDP, Germany 3rd, France 6th. We could get by on way less and still be prosperous. Oh yeah, our nation is bigger, etc. we're the bread basket of the world, and so on. Actually we are now a
net importer of food.
We use groundwater way faster than it is restored. We get further and further out on a limb, relying on various methods that cannot be sustained.
