Here on the west coast, Monterey Bay area our winters are not too bad. I usually wait until the relay clunks and then start.
Once in a while Dec thru Feb the coldest part of winter it can get down to 30 and the high 20`s. I might use the block heater to help the starter, and still glow once until the relay clunks.

In the warmer times of the year I usually start after the light goes out. most times after it has warmed up and has sat for an hour or so it starts w/o any glow.

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.
