You could simply replace the plungers with the type that you can grab. Someone installed those smooth ones at some point because they're impossible to grab with a coat hanger (as an anti-theft mod). All you need to do is unscrew them and screw on a set of originals which would restore the functionality of the locking system to unlock without opening the doors.
