When my dad was little they had a Tornado in his village in Germany.....some trees were blown down, and a few people lost a couple tiles from their roof. That's it. Concrete houses, tile roofs, steel integrated shutters over the windows, all utilities underground. The power did not even go out. The house his parents built had poured concrete walls and floors with rebar, over a foot thick. 
Those Germans know how to build!
