Probably sometime this fall I'll move into the 240 and we'll pull the head and see what we learn.

I'm more worried at the moment that my overheating problem won't go away when the problem I'm discussing in this thread does, regardless of what the outcome is. I've been sort of hoping that a cracked head could lead to overheating when making ascents, simply because I've already checked everything else that it makes sense for that to be. If it doesn't, then I've still got just as much trouble as I did before.

The pressure holding overnight and the mysteriously disappearing coolant seems like a valid enough reason to pull the head on this thing regardless.
The oil test is inconclusive, either due to the fault of the lab or simply due to an insignificant amount of glycol appearing in the oil.

Therefore, if the problem is a cracked head or blown head gasket, it's not serious enough to warrant chasing it at this point in time. These issues have a definitive characteristic of getting worse with time..........eventually, the symptoms cannot be ignored.

As you mentioned, the vehicle has rust, poor paint, problems with the a/c and, now, possibly head issues.

Does it make sense to dump $1.5K into the head on such a vehicle..........probably not.
