I don't think you've seen enough of the show.

There really is no tension among the grandfather, father, and son.

There was one episode where the son "Big Hoss" bought the Chris Craft boat for $15K without getting permission from his father, who was pissed off.

Other than that, the show is just about people trading in interesting stuff.
