Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I had my son taking pictures while I was looking over the car and didn't think to have him get a shot of the vin. It did have at least one sticker inside the driver's door with "Manufactured by Daimler etc.etc. in Germany" or some such written in English, I don't know if that's any clue or not. That sticker was in addition to the metal plate giving the vin and all the GVW's and such.
If somebody customized a 240 they'd have had to replace the 300 badge in the back, which of course isn't impossible.
It definitely has 5 cylinders, the pic is deceiving. I'm going to call and ask him for the Vin tomorrow. That'll settle it. I'll update the thread then.
