The original poster refers to a 190D 2.2 which would be a OM601 engine, this engine uses the same vertical injection design prechambers and prechamber rings as the OM615/616/617XXX and OM602.91X(without EGR) as well as OM 603.96X engines. All these engines use the pin-type prechamber rings into which the nozzle holder threads. So the nozzle holders for these engines are in fact dimensionally compatible!

The engines which use inclined injection OM602.91(as of 09/88 with EGR), OM602.961/2, and OM603.962/970. All these later engines use differently designed splined type prechambers rings and prechambers into which these nozzle holders threads into.
