My oldest son is now officially "too cool" for us so he went off with some friends leaving the daughter and the my two youngest boys. We had big plans with friends for beer, sangria and Hot Toddies in the wagon while the kiddies ran rampant but sickness hit all of our families, including my wife, so it was just us.
We just put a basket out on the porch with a note to "Please Take One". We started doing that several years ago since we bring all of the kids around and aren't home. We're just south of the city and a lot of city-folk bring their kids to the 'burbs for trick-or-treating (can't really blame them), I figured the first car-load that showed up would clean us right out. Didn't happen then and didn't happen this year, still had a couple handfuls of pieces left when we go back to the house around 7:30. We actually came across four other houses around the 'hood that did that this year.
I think the number of kids overall was down again this year but it seemed like there were a lot more little kids so we're probably poised for an upswing. The first year we moved in we had a 140 kids, 110 the next year, and 80 the last year we were home handing out candy. My mother was sick this year too and she always keeps track at her house.
It did start raining about 8:00 so that probably cut down on a lot of the older kids that usually come around then.
At 8:00 the lights went out and I blew out the candles out in the Jack O'Lanterns. After that I settled into the recliner for a little Pro Bull Riding, some Bud Lights (didn't have any PBR's) and too much candy and no one bothered me.
