I just did a battery relocation to my 84 300d. Takes way more than 3 hours to do it right. I did it so that almost any battery can be used and to be different. I put the battery in a battery box in the passenger side drop down and very little trunk space is lost.
The front end sits high now. It is a well established fact that the closer one can get to a 50/50 weight bias the better it usually is for handling, but I don't plan on doing any autocross or racing events with a diesel benz.
It is a lot of work. Passenger and rear seat removal. Passenger carpet removal. Holesaw through firewall and trunk partition and grommets. I put the cable in 1/2" flex elec. conduit. Figuring out how to run it so the carpet will go back in and look o.k. is one of the biggest problems.Connect ground cable at back. etc. Lot's of work but I like the results.
