They are such beautiful coupes. Back in the day, along with the Jaguar XJS, those 8 series were the *DIRECT* competition to the 560SEC.

At a Eurosunday meeting two weeks ago, I met a man there who collects those particular BMW cars.

He did not disagree with me too much when I said to him,

~~~They never were accepted that much by other BMW owners even when they first came out.
Real BMW fanatics maintain that the only REAL BMW was the 2002.
And amongst them, there exists a lunatic fringe of them that say, no, the ONLY REAL BMW is the 2002tii.
~~~The V12 850i model is more to be avoided, as it is dangerously complicated and thus suspect to becoming a true money pit, in the worst way, (like the 6.9 in your signature that you so covet)

~~~The 840i is a better bet but it too can be a gamble, especially when it comes to electricals and horrific things like dashboard pixels depixillating, etc.
~~~They are VERY sexy looking coupes though especially without the headlights on. Rear seatroom, as with many coupes like this are better suited for amputees, bags of groceries, children, or dogs that are not too big

~~~Best examples that are for sale, are most likely found on enthusiast fora that cater to them. Such as bimmerforums etc. Same as right here.
~~~ Specific wheel choice, and more importantly - color, counts a LOT.
Darker matallics, like red, blue and black, look the best, when choosing a car.

~~~ Pay the most, when buying, that you can afford, for the one in the best condition, lowest miles and most records with it. Saves BIG in the long run.
