There is also apparently in existence another set of plates to cover the transmission/driveline and diff, for when you want to take your 123 into the bush
Hello, I had a parts car quite awhile ago that I bought for the harmonic balancer off the engine. I got it for 300 bucks and figured to strip the motor and tranny and diff etc. I do remember having to take a long plate off the bottom of the car to get to the driveshaft. I wonder if that would be the skidplate you are refering to. If I remember correctly the plate did go from the diff to the rear of the tranny. (can't remember if it was one piece or two pieces). The car was a 1982 300 SD. I think I kept it but would have to look around. It was a w126 car and all three of the ones I drive are w123, so I may have just threw it into the hulk before the wrecker picked it up. I have two w126 gassers for parts left, (no parts seem to work for me so far. not even window swithches.) I know where the car is cause I had to go back and find the air cleaner bracket, once..... and have often though to go get the brake calipers. If I do not find it around my house I may go to the hulk and see if it is still there. I wonder if it will bolt to a w123 car as the oil pan guard does or would the driveshaft be longer on the w126 therefore not fit? I kind of like the idea of having one now that I saw these pictures. The roads up here are not very good. If it won't fit my wagon I may grab it for anyone that has a w126 car that wants one, providing they don't want a mint for it. (hopefully they remember it was my car before theirs) Maybe these are stock on a w126 car?? (someone on here outa know?)I remember this plate fondly cause when I pulled it out There was a ton of dirt and crud that fell all over me.... as I took it off I swore at what a stupid idea it was to put that on there as it did nothing for me at the time, except be a collector of dirt and grime that I figured would speed up corrossion.....you know after typing this out it is coming back to me that I did not keep it because at the momoent of hatred for that part for getting me all dirty I could see no benefit to having it ever again and I chucked it in the trunk of the useless hulk. At least I know where to look. Any else have one of these driveshaft/ rear end skid plates on a W123? would the vin number or some number of the hulk tell us wheather the car came from factory with this option? For an SD, this car was kind of plain. Had really ugly and dirty cloth seats.
