I work in the service department of a Ford dealer specializing in engine repair, and manual/automatic transmission repair. It has its advantages, like being able to do advanced repair work on your own vehicles, but I would not recommend this as a career choice these days. It's no longer a means to earn a decent living. Too many MBAs, CPAs, and efficiency experts telling me how to fix a car and how little I get paid to do it.
