If I had more money and time I would start putting more interesting "effects" into my 300D.
Have you considered changing the way the instrument cluster illuminates? I've wanted to see if using a blacklight bulb would add the glow effect that newer cars have.

not black light, but I used a blue LED and painted my needles with a correct color, UV reactive paint.
I'll probably go back to white once they burn out, but you might like this look.
