Sometimes the bluetooth does seem to be more trouble than it's worth, I also have a jack that I can use for my iphone but I usually use the bluetooth anyway to avoid having to plug it in.

I do use a stand alone gps unit because I don't want to have to keep switching between maps and audio on the phone. If my kids want to watch movies in the car, they usually just load them on a iphone or ipod touch and use earphones. Somehow my daughter even watches video on a tiny blackberry curve screen.

I usually have a MBP with me, but I don't have any real reason to use it in the car.
