Grapir gets it! I could not care less what their motivation was. I was made more than "whole" and I am very happy with the result.

Incidentally, the actual "crunch", the impact, took place at low speed so there was no physical trauma to me at all and I was not into playing out any PI charade.

HuskyMan, the insurance company was State Farm. Apparently they have mended their ways as years ago they had a reputation for being pretty miserable to deal with.
