I would be curious to know why though. Call it intellectual curiosity. My theory is that in a forced situation that is as bad as that, the group mode might be alright. Of course, I have also heard of a lot of stories where it is every man for himself when things go worse. Still, good thing I am not there at that time but my point was simple. What do you think of all the human splendor at that time? Or in Stalin's Gulag or Uncle Mao's Reeducation Centers to name a few? Maybe in those situations they were forced to pool together. However, since we are here and not there, the need to pool together and take care of each other isn't as strong or present in many situations.
I mean, if I could be sure you had my back if I watched yours, it could work. The wife and I have that relationship so I know it works. OTOH, I don't see society as having my back which explains my lack of enthusiasm for having anyone's back by mine and my little circle.
