To check, pull the under dash panel on the drivers side and look for a black line that isn't connected to anything. Wiggle the one in the engine bay to confirm that they are indeed the same line. I should be able to investigate some more today.

I am guessing now but would the only reason for a vent line line to go through the fire wall would be to provide clean cabin venting air?
