W124 V-8 engine compartment heat

Close inspection of the new SLK320 AMG's nifty louvered hood makes me wonder about having similar ones done for my E420. Has anyone ever done this scientifically by mapping the engine compartment "hot spots"? The SLK AMG has two sets of louvers; one down each side of the "power bulge". They look very nice.
