Yes, but other civilizations had meens to deal with free loaders. Generally, Americans do not want to follow rules. Then blame others. It fine if its a free ride, or on someone else's dime.
Let's take cell phones and driving as an example. I have no problems with a hand free device. Really no difference between that and talking to a passenger in the car. Actually, it might be safer. I know some who want to maintain eye contact, while you are driving. Really! Now, Germany has seatbelt laws. If you are in an accident, and didn't wear your seatbelt, it's your fault. How about is your in an accident and you were talking on the cell phone, its your fault.
Now take this to healthcare, smoking: higher premiums. How about overweight, higher premiums. Maybe talk to the doctors, drug companies etc. see if they will take a paycut, so we can pay what other industrialized nations pay for health care.
Also Nacy P. reminds me of the Sheri Otteri character on SNL. The one who is always at the pharmacy buying precrition drugs.
