I assume that your knowledge about the motor (from 1998, 100 mi) was from the service records, right? Do you know if the replacement motor was actually rebuilt in 1998, or just that the swap occurred then? I wonder whether MB rebuilds these on an as-needed basis, or if they have a stock of extra 617s sitting on pallets in Stuttgart?

I would love to know more info about my replacement 617, but don't have the dealer service records...
