I took two taught be full professors with doctorates. The difference was they also had worked full careers outside of academia before they started teaching. They were what you call 'on the ball' - both complete opposites of the econ. prof. scene in
Back to School with Rodney Dangerfield.
The medical sociology class was taught by a guy with an MA in divinity from Yale. BUT when he got hired in the 70s, all you needed was a pulse. He went on for a week
way outside his own field about economics.
