Smoke coming from a pin hole on valve cover??

Did a diesel purge last night and it seems all is well. However, the missing idle happened again this morning. I stopped the car and lifted the hood and I saw smoke coming from a pin hole at the rear left hand corner of the valve cover, as shown in the picture. There seems to be a hole there but I am not sure it was there before or it was pierced by something inside the valve cover.

I closed the hood and drove back to the company and the idle was smooth again and car was purring like a cat. Lifted the hood and NO smoke coming from the pin hole. Should there be a pin hole on the valve cover? Where does the smoke coming from? Is it relate to the missing idle? Some stuck valves? I am puzzled.

The picture is not my car as I did not have my camera. I just pull a picture from the web for illustration purpose.
