I wasn't talking about charging for alignment. I was talking about checking components for tightness. A previous poster said that they pay for alignment once a year and the main purpose is to see if there are any loose components. My response was to point out that many shops will check the components as a courtesy in conjunction with other maintenance work at no charge. If there are no loose components and no crash damage, then there's no reason to check alignment, at least on a Mercedes.
