I've used engine degreaser, let it soak into the pulleys and all over the belt, then rinse well. no issues so far.
however, with a serpentine belt, there's not much rubber to play with, so if it looks like the belt is damaged, just replace it. it's the only belt on the car, and you DON"T wanna overheat the car!!!
