The battery MUST be disconnected for any form of electric welding, or you can induce spikes, reverse voltage, AC current into the system = exploding battery, wrecked/damaged modules, etc.

The red 12-pin connector on the SRS/airbag main control module.
Failure to disconnect risks deploying all of the airbags and firing the two front explosive seat belt retractors.
