if you want to see your paint i'm afraid the film is your only option.even if you could find clear vinyl you'd be unable to see the paint since the black ones have a felt backing that is usually white.i think 3M makes some stick-ons and for the ones i've seen they look real good-can't tell they're on 'til you get right up to them
