As for checking the fuel for dye, I would anticipate that we'll see more of this kind of thing as states battle with budget shortfalls. I think we'll be surprised at how aggressively states and even municipalities go after people for infractions that five years ago wouldn't have been looked for at all.

Make no mistake, the states are in a world of hurt and although there may be a few dollars from federal govt. it will not bridge the shortfall in any meaningful way. The states and municipalities all spent when times were good and there was nothing in the coffers saved for a rainy day, well now it's raining daily and there just isn't any money.

I personally think that the word has gone out to all state departments that if you're a revenue generator you better start bringing home more bacon. I know in Iowa that fines on all manner of traffic citations went up by a meaningful amount.
