Yes, Master Sargent!
The new fitness regime tries to deal with all these problems by incorporating more stretching, more exercises for the abdomen and lower back, instead of the traditional situps, and more agility and balance training. It increases in difficulty more gradually. And it sets up a multiweek course of linked exercises, rather than offering discrete drills.
There are fewer situps, different kinds of push-ups and fewer long runs, which Army officials say are good for building strength and endurance but often lead to injuries. They also do not necessarily prepare soldiers for carrying heavy packs or sprinting short distances.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The five-event PT test and exercises done during the VietNam war, when I was first in, were exactly like this.
The other difference: the food we eat now is so calorie-filled that it's crazy.
Yes this is a rant but I had one bottle of soda pop a week because I had a poaper route. The rest of the time, it was water.
Now people drink 2000 calories worth of soda for breakfast.
Look at SF, Ranger, and Abn guys who forsake the high calorie food and you will see. It's about healthy eating habits and lots of water.
You'll have to get your caffeine from coffee.
Oh BTW in the WOCS, you only drink water. That means 8 weeks with no caffeine.
Can you handle it?
