Yes, and no one has ever had a drastic hardware failure with a high end Windows based personal computer. Or have they? Hmm.
As for the advice about buying used . . .there is some truth in that, but it's due to the market prices for used Apple gear, which seems to retain more value over similarly aged WinPC hardware, which depreciates faster. Often the price differential between used Apple gear and new isn't very much, when one factors in warranty, features and . . . potential resale.
