I know this isn't Appropriate. But I wanted a mac, and couldn't justify paying more than 2x what dell would charge for similar hardware just for almost identical hardware, so I spent about a week of trial and error, and now my dell vostro 1400 runs osx 10.5.8 perfectly

It can be done, and especially with the new intel based macs, as long as you are careful about hardware selection, there is virtually no discernable difference.
