I personally think the early style (92-94) looks better than the later ones, and I think the short wheel base fits itself better than the long. 92 400SE is the only SWB V8 140 body in the U.S. which is a good thing. Colors are good, 119 motor and .3 transmission very good. To me the only thing scary about that early is the front end. There was a class action lawsuit on a front end shimmy that they couldn't seem to get rid of. Not all cars suffered but all owners got $3500 in settlement. The previous owner has surely blown it on something. But if it doesn't do it no need to worry about it.
Fred, you've got 95 in the early troubled years. That was the facelift year - the pinnacle of 140 desirability in my view, especially for the DIYer. It was all downhill from there. There were very few changes from 95 to 99 but they all either went sour or were somehow hostile to the DIYer, like the elimination of DIY flash code reading.
