In thinking of the title to this thread, I came to the conclusion, " Well, Duh!"
Since less than half of the people pay income taxes, and therefore have no " skin in the game", why wouldn't they want someone else to keep giving them more and more stuff.
The problem is that sooner or later you run out of other peoples' money. If I could get my employer to put me on salary at my present rate, but only make me work 24 hours a week, AND pay for all my health care, AND a healthy pension, why wouldn't I want that? Well, the answer is that sooner or later my employer runs out of money, and therefore he goes bankrupt--then I have to look for another job. The only difference is that the government can print money if it wants to, but that simply makes all money worth less than it was, so you make future generations pay for your current benefits. That seems morally bankrupt to me.
Utopia seems great--but, in reality it is unrealistic. Therefore it is evil.
