My 300SDL gives about 24.5-26.0 mpg no matter how or where I drive it. The 240D frequently comes up with exactly the same range. If anything, the 240 is only 1 mpg (avg) higher. It's really a trivial difference.

I admit I drive like I robbed a bank most of the time. That plays into it.
