Yes, it does matter - he claims his car (a '96 E300) gets 42 MPG.
So, when anyone claims that their car gets 42 MPG, but only goes 550 per tank fill - they are missing 336 miles of distance somewhere.
So, when they make a wild claim of getting 42 MPG on a 21.1 gallon fuel tank - however, need to fuel up every 550 miles.
If his car really got 42 MPG, it would go a distance of 886 miles per tank.
