Mine did something similar when it was suffering from the W124 cracked wiring harness issue. The throttle computer and whatnot went into "limp mode" at the same time. Notice yours doing that or just the lights? Either way, you still should take the "DOC's" advice and see a dealer or independent that is familiar with a scan tool.
