As a long time Toyota fan, I can't entirely agree. I do think they've gone downhill in the last 15 years or so... My dad's 2nd generation Tundra isn't the truck my 1st gen is, and though far more powerful, neither is as stout as my pre-Tacoma Hilux was. Still, for over engineering do a little reading on the early model 1uz-fe - 6 bolt mains, an oiling system to rival a 617's... Its like they intended to turbo-charge these motors and then didn't. Engineering is Toyota's (and Lexus') strongest point. What they lack is the style to go with it.
