My first 123 I bought needed a battery, that or a fuel pump (long story). When I installed it it shorted out a cell and needed to go to the store and replace it. It took about 1/2 hour to figure out it was the battery. It started to turn over then stopped. Thought it was a wiring problem. I'm under the impression that lead acid batteries are pretty much the same. (Made by several manufactures using the same technology) Yes they do have different qualities. Now unless you switch to or start looking at AGM or newer technology batteries then factors change.
