Bosch AL65X is the original alternator, real world output was about 65-68A.

In 1990 MB realized that alternator was too weak as well & went to an alternator rated at 80A (Bosch AL66X). That is a direct bolt on WITH the later version wiring harness!
The AL66X puts out about 82-85A
