I must say why would you use multiple generators, and not just one bigger one? Skip the compressor too, just have enough generator to supply everything. Let the compressor run off electric when needed.

shoestring really is the only answer, I can pick up 10KW heads all day long on craigs with blown gas motors. I have since changed it to a 20KW 120 1PH with provision for a 10-20KW 240 3PH for the garage. compressor was because I have a rotary screw head that requires 15HP to run. its all still in the planning phase........
