i just realized what you meant about the protective covers. i could not see what you were talking about until now. that's just a reflection on the paint of the car. ive seen my freind's 300SD with a plastic shield to protect the hood, though i think those are ugly and not worth it. id rather have a pitted hood tip than a plastic window.

if you notice in the picture i attached, all the pitting under the headlight and there's some above as well.

with that said, i know that new Volvo's come with a 3M product- a clear adhesive layer about 4 inches long and the width of the hood to protect that part of the hood from pitting. ive tried to track it down and was unsuccessful. but if you can find it, let me know!
